Mother Lode Progressives Arrested in “Occupy Sacramento” Protest Against Wall. St.

Two of the 19 activists arrested in the first hours of Friday were foothill residents involved in Mother Lode Progressives. Twenty-two year old Mike Israel, who cofounded the group with me, and Sac State professor Paul Burke, one of the chairs for the Progressive Alliance, a group based out of Sacramento with which we are affiliated.

Around a dozen other Mother Lode residents, myself included, attended Saturday. Unlike the seasoned activists arrested the a few nights earlier, the Saturday afternoon crowd seemed very new to political protests, once marching to the chant of “the people, united, will never be divided.” One older marcher in front of us mumbled, “It’s ‘will never be defeated.’ If they’re already united then of course they can’t be divided.” We must disregard these minor diversions from tradition; they are simply more evidence of the originality of this fledgling movement.

  1. I believe a good portion of those arrested on Thursday night also were first time activists, but were still determined to carry on their message no matter what the risks

  2. hello MLP. Ross from Occupy Eugene. I have a friend I lived with backin the day, in community,
who is interested in participating in the OWS movement but is way far from OSac, and I found MLP searching for rural occupy Sac. Are you an OWS assembly? Still active?
